Education Reform Scotland

The Scottish Government is conducting a consultation on the reform of education in Scotland, including a review and revamp of the Curriculum for Excellence and the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). This is the framework under which our children are taught.

We would strongly encourage you to contribute to the consultation, particularly since the changes implemented under this reform are highly likely to affect the qualifications and assessments that current primary school children will undertake at secondary school. The consultation is public so anyone can contribute to it. You can complete the consultation online here:
In addition to this, Midlothian Council are also collating a county-wide response and are keen to have parent/carer input. You can still contribute:
there is a “jamboard” https://bit.ly/3c0pucb – this provides specific questions to guide your thoughts and allows you to add feedback on each question. You can also leave general comments on the last slide. It is easiest to use the “post-it note” button on the left hand side.
2. There is a short video explaining the consultation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGNmxQ2mRIs
The consultation ends on 26th November 2021, which is a very short timescale. You can contribute to both the public consultation and the Midlothian Council response. It would be a valid and useful contribution if you felt only able to comment on the inadequate window of opportunity to participate in the consultation given the scale of the review and the significance of the impact on future generations of school pupils.
Kind regards,
Emma Diffley
