Tynewater Mutual Aid Network
A group of people and organisations in the Tyne Water district are setting up a way to connect local volunteers with anyone who has a need for help during the Corona Virus pandemic. This is to provide short term assistance, e.g. in picking up prescriptions, helping with shopping etc. It is not to provide in-home visits, financial aid or medical advice.
Many people in Tynewater already help their neighbours out and this is obviously to be encouraged. People may also have access to social work, professional carers, online shopping etc. This aid network is not designed to replace such things. In this emergency however, usual sources of help may not be available.
The Tyne Water Aid Network will look to connect people on a one to one basis that respects privacy and should enable people to help each other in a safe manner. If you need assistance your contact details will have to be shared, but only with a few people at most. The names of volunteers will not be circulated.
If you need assistance please contact the Tyne Water Mutual Aid Network by using one of the methods listed below. You will need to specify
- what you need
- when you need it by
- a contact name and number and location/address (which will only be shared with the person you contact the the person who volunteers to help you.)
You can ask for help by:
- emailing HELP@PATHHEAD.INFO
- Sending a personal message (PM’ing) to the Facebook page WHAT’S ON IN PATHHEAD
- Contacting members of:
-
- Tynewater Parent Council
- Pathhead & District Community Association
- Tynewater Community Council
- Tyne Valley Parish
- Pathhead Youth Project
- Pathhead Mothers And Toddlers
- Pathhead Music Collective
- Tynewater Eco Network
- Pathhead Scottish Women’s Institute
A member of the volunteer network will then contact you and look to help you out at a mutually suitable time. Please note this is done on a volunteer basis by people who will need to keep themselves safe. For example, if they pick up a prescription for you they will leave it outside your house at a pre arranged time; If they pick up shopping for you, you may need to hand the list and money to them through the letter box.
This is a new venture for us all so please bear with us if there are teething problems. The helpers can’t guarantee to be able to do everything and may decline some requests.
Midlothian Football Homework Programme
With most sports closed down due to COVID-19 we are concerned that physical activity drops among the young children in Midlothian and Scotland as a whole.
In a bid to keep children engaged and active we have been busy coming up with a homework programme with lots of fun football challenges to keep them going and getting a sweat on. Challenges can be done indoor or in the garden.
Starting this evening we will be releasing a daily challenge for the children (adults are also welcome) to attempt and try to complete.

Active Schools COVID-19 Update
Following recent communications from Midlothian Council and based on the guidance from our Head of Service the decision has been taken to cancel ALL Active Schools school based sessions and community cluster clubs. This will take effect from Wednesday 18th March, meaning that all clubs planned for today WILL go ahead.
We appreciated this is a difficult time and we look to do our upmost to continue our programme when it is safe to do so.
